Turkey is a good market for many sectors due to its increasing population and growing market. And also; Due to its geographical position as a bridge between the Middle East and Europe, and due to the political reasons and war environment in neighboring countries, it is a relatively safer country in terms of commercial affairs compared to neighboring countries. In addition, from the point of view of Asian countries; It is the closest country to both the European market and the Middle East market.
Since there is almost no domestic plastic raw material production in Turkey, it can be said that the local plastics industry is very limited and this presents an opportunity for foreign products. In plastic products, the price per kg per import is much higher than the export prices.
Since the Turkish plastics industry is not in a very good position in terms of engineering and design compared to some countries, it is seen that there is an opportunity for innovative products. Due to the high competitiveness of domestic and foreign companies in the market, it is very important that the products that will enter the new market are innovative and price competitive.
In Turkey, especially kitchen glassware products cover a large part of the plastic products market. The sector, which has a strong wholesaler and retailer distribution channel, is also in a strong position in online sales. It is seen that such products have wide distribution channels and are sold even in the most remote village and neighborhood shops.
Imported and locally produced products from all over the world, especially from China, are widely sold in the domestic market. Companies that will enter the Turkish market should be able to compete with local and international players in terms of quality and price.
The plastics industry is of great importance in the Turkish economy, which is the 17th largest economy in the world with a growth rate of 6.1% in 2017. According to 2016 data, the sector, which has an annual average growth of 15%, has an annual production of 35 billion dollars, an export of 5 billion dollars and an import of 3.1 billion dollars.
The plastics industry employs approximately 250 000 people with 6500 active companies in the domestic market. While 90% of the companies in the sector are small or medium-sized, only 10 companies can make mass production. The distribution of these companies within the sector; 15% packaging, 11% construction, 10% textile, 10% household goods, 9% automotive, 15% technical components and 10% other applications.
