Top trade shows on furniture and interior decoration in Europe

The European furniture industry has emerged a keen facilitator for international businesses. This business sector has provided over a million jobs for the different nationalities that reside all over Europe. European designs in the realm of interiors remain the world’s most sought-after due to their superior quality and standard.

Expos and exhibits featuring European furniture and interior designs are therefore among the top platforms for businessmen to network, promote and acquire market knowledge on the sector.

Here are the important EU furniture and interior design expos that are well attended and worth participating in:

International Fair and Gastronomy Exhibition

This annual international event targets business sectors within the consumer goods, foods, beverages and interior decoration genres. This year, the International Fair and Gastronomy Exhibition will be held from Nov 1 to Nov 13, 2016, at the Parc des Expositions et Congres, Dijon, France.

The main displays at this event will cover furnishings, leisure, food and wines, household articles, home technologies, and arts and crafts.

In 2014, 542 exhibitors participated in the exhibition and it had close to 175,000 visitors. Dijon Congrexpo - Parc des Expositions et Congrès de Dijon are the event organisers for this yearly trade show.

Workplace 3.0/ SaloneUfficio - International Biennial Workspace Exhibition

This biennial (happens every two years) trade show deals with the business sectors  of furniture and office equipment. This trade event began in 1982. The next show will be from April 4 to April 9, 2017 at the Fiera Milano, Milan, Italy.

The main highlights of the exhibition will be displays on office furniture, alarm systems, office heating and air-conditioning, office accessories and technologies, magazines and publications and trade organizations and services.

The previous event, which was in 2015, attracted a total of 123 exhibitors and an estimated 272,000 visitors. The event is hosted by Federlegno Arredo Eventi spa.

Imm Cologne - The International Furnishing Show

The Imm Cologne is an international furnishing show which occurs every year. This mega event is split into two main themes: a) LivingKitchen and b) LivingInteriors. The LivingKitchen displays take place every odd year, while LivingInteriors occurs every even year. In this way, the event is able to tap trade communities from both the Kitchen and other Home interiors segments.

LivingKitchen will be held from January 16 to 22, 2017, at the Koelnmesse, Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The event will highlight businesses that deal with furniture, kitchen and bath, and lighting.

The latest LivingInteriors event was held in January 2016 and it attracted 120,000 visitors from 129 countries plus 1,167 exhibitors including International suppliers of living room and bedroom furniture, suppliers of home entertainment and bathroom equipment, lighting and accessories, suppliers of floor coverings, suppliers of furnishing products for contract business, mattresses and sleep systems, wall coverings and home textiles.

This event’s host is Koelnmesse GmbH.

MAISON&OBJET - International Trade Fair for Home Collections

Maison&Objet is scheduled to be held from January 20 to 24, 2017 at the Paris Nord Villepinte in Paris, France.

This event occurs twice a year and it showcases the following: Solutions for interior design, Fragrances, Tableware, Home textiles, Antiques - Furniture, lamps, rugs, Giftware - Creative leisure activities and games, flowers and accessories, collector’s items, party decor, nautical decor, Arts and Crafts - Puppets, wall decor, glasswork, jewellery, ceramics, dolls, clothes, Esprit d'Aujourd'hui - packing and writing materials, fashion accessories, creative objects, branded items, everyday objects, office accessories, and Games - toys.

Exhibitors for this event include wholesalers, manufacturers, designers, distributors and editors. The visitor profile includes individuals from departmental stores, central purchasing groups, galleries, decorators, hotels, manufacturers, buyers from independent retail shops or multiple chains.

For the last event held in January 2015, there were 2,737 exhibitors and 136,608 visitors.

International Furniture Fair or IMOB

This annual international event deals with all aspects of furniture. Earlier this year, the event took place at the CNR Expo in Istanbul, Turkey from January 26 to January 31, 2016. The next one is scheduled from January 24 to January 29, 2017 at the same venue.

The exhibition highlights modern and avantgarde furniture, modular furniture, classic and neo-classic furniture, seating groups, office furniture, baby, children and teenager sets, miscellaneous furniture and accessories.

Data gathered indicates that 482 exhibitors participated and more than 148, 000 visitors attended the previous IMOB. The visitors were dealers, wholesalers, distributors, importers/exporters, furniture subcontractors, specialized buyers, interior designers, decorators, architects, industrial designers, PR companies, real estate agencies and hotels.

Salone Internazionale del Mobile

This event, together with Salone Internazionale del Complemento d’Arredo, is an international show which occurs every year. This is another huge event split into two main themes: a) Euroluce and SaloneUfficio b) Salone Internazionale del Bagno and Eurocucina.

Euroluce and SaloneUfficio take place every odd year, while Salone Internazionale del Bagno and Eurocucina occurs every even year.

The next event - Salone Internazional del Mobile will be on April 4 to April 9, 2017 at Fieramilano, Milan, Italy. The focus sectors for this will be: bedrooms, beds, wardrobes, dining rooms, dining nooks and living rooms, hall furniture, children’s furniture, tables and chairs, rush and rattan furnitures, garden furniture, upholstered furniture, trade newspapers, magazines and publications, and trade associations and organizations.  

In 2016, 1,300 exhibitors presented their products and services to more than 310,000 visitors during this event hosted by Federlegno Arredo Eventi spa.

Istanbul Home Textiles Exhibition (EVTEKS)

EVTEKS is an annual international event on fabrics and home textiles. The first show was in 1994. The next event will be held from May 16 to May 20, 2017 at the CNR Expo, Istanbul, Turkey.

The event covers the following sectors: tulles, curtains, embroidery, guipure, imprinted products, accessories, furnishing fabrics, leather, decorative fabrics, haute couture, beddings, bed slats, mattresses, bed covers, quilts, pillows, blankets, table linen and decorations, towels, bathrobes, bathroom curtains, bath carpets, wall papers, sun protection systems, non-textile curtains, design studios, textile technologies, e-commerce, web services, marketing, promotion, shop fitting, publishing, yarn, fibres, chemicals, dyes and figment.

In 2015, 1,028 exhibitors joined the event and occupied 160,000 sqm. The exhibitors displayed their products and services to over 138,000 visitors.This event is hosted by CNR International Trade Fairs.

Planning to infiltrate the furniture and interior design culture of Europe will require some  export plan. Participating in trade expos assists in familiarising oneself with industry trends and opportunities while devising appropriate export plans.
